Happy World Photography Day Photographers! This annual holiday is to celebrate the history, art, craft, and science of photography.

I would ask…beg my Mom to borrow her camera so I could take a picture. This was back in the beginning of the 90’s, so no digital cameras and we were confined to how much film was on hand and you didn’t want to “waste” the film. I received my first point and shoot camera for Christmas and documented the whole day. Since then I have had and borrowed many cameras. I first took photography classes that were taught with manual film cameras in high school and the local community college. My uncle let me borrow his Pentax. I would develop my own black and white film and prints for years. I miss that camera. Nothing fancy but it was a workhorse and I took it everywhere.

My favorite type of photography is documentary. I love photographing nature, my family and friends in this style. I can look at those photographs and I’m transported back to that day and it sparks the memory of the stories and actives that were going on. It could be the most mundane thing they could be doing on just another Tuesday morning but now it is permanently recorded.

I love the stories behind the photographs that are taken!
